The CCT Experience
CCT is structured to ensure that the experience is rewarding for both nonprofits and volunteers. The benefits to the nonprofit client are perhaps obvious, including the opportunity to receive services that have a significant impact on the future of their organization at no cost to them, exposure to the latest management techniques and thinking, and access to volunteer consultants who might be potential board members and/or contributors to their organization. We estimate that, as market prices, the value of the consulting work that we do for our clients each year would have cost them at least $250,000.
However, the benefits to our volunteers are also considerable. Our volunteers tell us that it is some of the most rewarding work they have ever done. It also allows them to utilize their MBA training outside of the business environment, to learn about the issues facing nonprofit organizations, to develop some credentials in the consulting discipline, and to work closely with and really get to know similarly skilled professionals from other MBA programs and other work settings. Volunteers emphasize to us that through working side-by-side toward a common goals, they get to know others far better than they would through a casual chat at a reception.
CCT's projects are structured to start in January of each year, and to be completed by that June. During this time, volunteers typically work 8 to 16 hours per month in teams of four to six volunteer consultants. While we try to anchor each team with an experienced consultant, it is not necessary for every volunteer to have consulting experience.
